This time our focus is on the University of Liverpool that provides a combination of good ranking, excellent value for money and a perfect location for a student.

Many students are struggling to decide which educational institutions they should apply to. There is a lot to choose from, and it’s a daunting task if you never studied in the UK and don’t know what to expect.

To help students make the decision, we are offering a new series of posts about different universities around the country, what makes them stand out and what benefits they have to offer.

This time our focus is on the University of Liverpool that provides a combination of good ranking, excellent value for money and a perfect location for a student.

The ranking

The first aspect students typically look at is what place the university takes in different ranking systems in comparison to other universities in the country. Liverpool is in the 38th place, according to the Complete University Guide 2017 league tables, which positions it within the top 50 universities in the UK.

Considering that British universities are some of the best in the world, this means that Liverpool is in the top 1% globally, according to the Academic ranking of world universities.

Apart from league tables, there are many other organisations that evaluate the university success in different areas: research, teaching quality, student satisfaction etc. When it comes to the quality of research, membership in the elite Russell Group is an important indicator that the educational institution is one of the research leaders in the country.

Liverpool is not only a member of Russell Group, but also takes the 20th place in terms of research power in the UK, according to the Research Excellence Framework (REF), leading evaluation system. Research quality is a lot more relevant to students then they usually think, because more often than not, their study programmes will be informed by the current research.

As for the student satisfaction, Liverpool achieved 85% satisfaction score according to the main student feedback rating system, the National Student Survey.

Past and present

Founded 1881, the University of Liverpool has a long history and is proud to be associated with 9 Nobel laureates.

It is well equipped with modern facilities, including two libraries, 500,000 electronic books and 2,000 computers. It is a large university with 40 hectares of land and 22,715 students. 30% of them come from other countries, which creates a lively international environment.

Location and environment

What about the living environment you can expect to find when you get there? It is important to know in advance if it’s the right place for you and if it suits your character, to avoid disappointment.

Liverpool is considered to be one of the best places to be a student. It is one of the major cities in the UK with extended industrial and business network and even its own underground.
