Maintenance requirements for Tier 4 student visa applicants
Updated: June 2016
When applying for a Tier 4 student visa you will be required to show that you have enough funds on your account to maintain yourself during your study.
For example, an applicant for Tier 4 General student visa studying in London more than 50% of the time needs to show £1265 for living costs per month. Here are all the types of applications and associated costs:
|Type of application||Current amount|
|Tier 4 (General) studying in London||£1265|
|Tier 4 (General) studying outside London||£1015|
|Dependant of Tier 4 (General) migrant studying in London:||£845|
|Dependant of Tier 4 (General) migrant studying outside London||£680|
In most cases students need to show funds for every month of study.
If your course is longer than 9 months, you need to prove you have sufficient maintenance for the first 9 months only. For example, a student studying in London on a 3-year bachelor’s programme needs to show £1265*9=£11385.
The same rules apply to students continuing their studies in the UK.
